About Serigena™ Silk Glove Liners
When it comes to warming your digits, what can beat the thermal insulating effectiveness and comfort of Serigena™ Natural Silk Glove liners. Silk is considered a more effective thermal insulator for thickness than any other natural or synthetic fiber, making it the ideal bulk free under glove layer. You will also be able to operate most touch screens while still wearing these.
Low Bulk Warmth™
Serigena™ Silk Baselayer Garments have a very high warmth to bulk ratio. You get more warmth and comfort for less space taken up under your gloves..
Wind Chill Reduction™
Our Silk fabric’s combination of low air permeability and high water vapor permeability increases wearer comfort considerably in cold and windy conditions. Its insulating properties can help trap warmth close to the skin when its cold, and also mediate the temperature close to the skin when the sun comes out and ambient temperatures warm. This thermal quality combined with its bulk-less nature makes it the best choice for increasing the warmth under your gloves.
Warm when its Cool – Comfortable when it Warms™
Enjoy Silk’s well earned reputation for being light and warm in winter. The thick structure of our interlock – double jersey knit provides both warmth and comfort. Its thermal insulation property – its low thermal conductivity – functions best when you need it the most – when the air is cold and dry. Micro pockets of air trapped within its fibroin fibers insulate and slow the loss of body heat when it is cold. Glove liners with low thermal conductivity are the gold standard for cold weather.
Multi Season Comfort
Silk fabrics are warm to wear through the cool seasons – autumn/fall, winter, and spring, and comfortable when the days warm in temperate climates. This makes them ideal for year round use, even on the summer days that start cool and slowly warm. Silk’s insulating properties help trap warmth close to the skin when its cold, and help mediate the temperature close to the skin when the sun comes out and warms things up.
Skin Friendly
Silk has the remarkable quality of similarity of its protein profile with human skin. Its repetitive sequences of amino acids resemble that of human skin, making them remarkably compatible together. Silk is a dual-core fiber, with two continuous cores of fibroin protein, held together by glue-like sericin protein. Mulberry Silk fibroin has been consistently shown to be non-toxic, non-immunogenic, with no harmful degradation products.
The Silk yarn used in our fabric is known for its smooth texture, breathability, lustrous appearance, and strength. The remarkable strength of this long, medium-fine yarn helps our glove liners retain their shape over time. Our Silk fabric is smooth on the skin, and it helps maintain the optimum humidity of the body by minimizing both the circulation of perspiration, and moisture loss.
Breathable
Next to skin glove liner comfort is considerably enhanced when fabrics allow air and water vapor to pass through them. This thermoregulation by movement of air and water vapor through the fabric, helps maintain a comfortable microclimate in the space between the glove liner and our skin Air permeability (the amount of air that can pass through the fabric) has an affect on both heat and moisture transfer.
Our Interlock knit fabrics weft knit has open spaces between the yarn loops, which allow air and water vapor to pass through the fabric. Air permeability helps moisture transfer from the skin, through the fabric, and into the air around us. Water vapor permeability (the amount of water vapor that can pass through the fabric) especially determines our thermal comfort when we or the temperatures heat up.
Gold Standard Interlock Knit Fabric
The Interlock knit pattern fabric that we use is considered the gold standard for next to skin garments. Mulberry Silk filament twisted into medium-fine yarn is knitted into the Interlock (double jersey) fabric that is used in Serigena™ glove liners..
Silk Interlock fabric’s fine honeycomb like pattern is created by using two rows of needles to produce interlocking loops, forming a “double knit” (two pieces of jersey back-to-back) that has a smooth, identical surface on both sides (inside and outside). This knit pattern gives the fabric a balanced, smooth, stable structure.
Interlock fabrics require finer, better, and more expensive yarn. Silk Interlock knit fabric is a versatile material favored for high-end next to skin base layer. Its an ideal fabric for use in the Best Silk Glove Liners.
Touch Screen Compatible
You will be able to operate most touch screens through our silk glove liners worn on your hands
Flame and Temperature Resistance
100% Natural Silk Fabrics start to dry and shrink when they reach extreme temperatures around 150°C to 230°C. They don’t ignite until they reach around 550°C to 600°C. When ignited Silk does not readily burn and it is self extingushing, and it chars without melting. It has much higher temperature ignition thresholds than cotton (which ignites around 390°C to 400°C), and polyester synthetics (which melt and drip between around 252°C to 292°C).
Silk filament remains structurally stable in Extreme freezing Alpine Temperatures down to -40°C. It retains baseline structural strength down to -18°C. Silk does not ‘cold crack’ and structurally degrade like synthetic polymers at high altitude
Crafted by Nature™ Natural & Sustainable
Our Silk is crafted by nature. Its protein profile is remarkably similar to that of the human skin, making it very friendly to your skin. It is a natural, renewable, organic, and biodegradable fiber./ filament. 100% Natural Silk garments are environmentally harmless, breaking down in normal composting soil conditions within 1 to 5 years, leaving no synthetic footprint. The Silk spinning process is almost 90% more energy efficient than processing the polyethylene used in the manufacture of synthetic garments.
